At the seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai, German companies expressed their growing commitment to increasing their investment and innovation capacity in the Chinese market. This is seen as part of a broader effort to inject new momentum into the Sino-German partnership and capitalize on China’s transformation into an innovation-driven economy.

One prominent participant, the German technology group Heraeus, made its mark in the newly established New Materials Zone of the expo. This marks their seventh participation at the CIIE, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to the Chinese market. At the expo, Heraeus showcased its high-quality materials and cutting-edge technologies in various fields, including precious metals, semiconductors, electronics, healthcare, and industrial applications.

Heraeus’ Commitment to Innovation and Localized Growth

Jan Rinnert, CEO of Heraeus, highlighted the company’s strategic focus on aligning its expertise with the growing demand for advanced materials in China. Rinnert emphasized the importance of innovation-driven strategies and the role China has played in fostering such an environment. He stated, “We are thrilled to be featured in the newly established new materials zone, which aligns perfectly with our expertise.”

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Heraeus’ operations in China. Reflecting on this milestone, Rinnert credited China’s shift toward an innovation-driven economy as a significant factor in the company’s success. Heraeus has been investing heavily in local innovation capabilities to better serve the Chinese market, adhering to the philosophy of “In China, for China”.

Looking ahead, Rinnert stated that Heraeus plans to deepen its local innovation efforts, expand capacity, and nurture talent in China to contribute to sustainable growth in the country. He reiterated that China would remain one of the company’s most critical markets, with continued focus on introducing more advanced products and technologies.

Karcher: Expanding Brand Presence in China

Another German exhibitor, Karcher, a leading cleaning equipment manufacturer, also underscored the importance of China as a key market. This was their seventh appearance at the CIIE, where the company introduced its sub-brand Hawk in the Technology and Equipment Zone.

Marco Cardinale, Karcher’s Chief Technology Officer, highlighted the company’s long-standing support for the CIIE and its role in expanding Karcher’s sales, production, and brand presence in China. He pointed out that the spillover effects of the exhibition have been instrumental in helping Karcher grow its footprint in the competitive Chinese market over the years.

Growing Significance of the Chinese Market

Both companies, Heraeus and Karcher, represent the broader trend of German enterprises increasing their investments in China, spurred by the country’s transition to a more innovation-driven economy. With more focus on high-quality development and advanced technologies, Germany’s participation in CIIE reflects its intention to enhance cooperation with China and play an active role in the country’s economic growth.

The CIIE has emerged as a crucial platform for international companies to deepen their presence in China, with Germany’s long-term engagement and commitment to localizing innovation serving as a model for others. As Chinese demand for advanced technologies and sustainable solutions continues to grow, German companies are poised to be important players in helping to meet these needs, ensuring mutual benefits for both economies.
